The Racing21 competition team was founded in 2015 by mathematician Karel Janeček and rallye driver Vojtěch Štajf.
Rally team Racing21 is intensively training for its sixth racing season, which will be varied in terms of programme and at the same time adjusted to the current conditions of individual sports events home and abroad. During the winter break the team has moved to an entirely new workshop and office facility.
Since the beginning of this year, the team Racing21 has been based in Červený Újezd west of Prague. In the future this facility should host more than just service activities related to motorsport, but shall also become a meeting place for the fans, presentation of historic vehicles, and other such events supported by full equipment for various presentations and trainings offered to business clients.
Vojtěch Štajf, racing driver and manager of the Racing21 team, has now introduced the activities planned for competition season 2021. Despite being a busy manager of the team, he still remains an active competition racer wanting to broaden his range of activities in the current motorsport. Vojtěch had dedicated the past season partially to starts in the Pohár 2+ cup held as part of the Rallysprint series of the CZ championship, and continues to focus on the Czech championship in this year as well, with František Rajnoha, an experienced navigator as his mate. “Czech one-day competitions are exactly the type of events that suit my plans for this year. Broadening of the team’s activities requires more and more time for me as the manager, but I still don’t want to get out of racing. This is why I teamed up with František to compete in selected events of the Autoklub Rallysprint series. We are planning to alternate two cars, Polo GTI R5 and Fabia R5. As there is currently great demand for rental of our Polo GTI R5, we will probably compete more in the Fabia R5 based on a planned collaboration with Petr Kačírek’s Duck Racing team,” said Vojtěch Štajf about some of his plans for this year.
In 2021, Vojtěch Štajf will move his rather sporadic activity in historical cars racing up to a new and more prestigious level. As the only representative of the Czech Republic for the FIA European Championship in historical rally he will participate in at least four of its events. The navigator for this championship will be Vladimír Zelinka, a legend of 1980s and 1990s competitions; Vojtěch Štajf has already used the experience of this legendary driver before, for instance during their two starts in the famous La Carrera Panamericana race in 2014 and 2015. ”The history of motorsport totally enchanted me, and as a result I actually own several pretty youngtimers, which were presented at some of the one-hundredth classic car rallies last year. As a boy I was totally into the stories of famous cars and their even more famous drivers. This is why I eventually decided to actively focus on historical cars. The first start will be in the domestic Historic Vltava Rallye, with an excellent Opel Kadett C GT/E 16V from 1975 owned by Ctirad Hájek to whom I am very grateful for this amazing opportunity. I am immensely excited to race with this car that had gained its fame through the legendary driver Walter Röhrl. It will be a super challenge, and there will be Mirek Janota with the same type of car as well. We already have another classical gem in our garage: it just arrived from Italy and I look forward to driving it at some of the races in Europe. For the time being I don’t want to reveal what car it is, it will be a surprise for our fans and we will reveal it later,” said Štajf about his plans in European classic car competitions.
The cherry on top of this year’s activities of the Racing21 team should be their start in the second year of FIA Motorsport Games, which will be taking place between 29 and 31 October around Marseilles and at the nearby F1 Paul Ricard circuit. The programme covers 18 motorsport disciplines and Racing21 should represent the Czech Republic in the classic rally category. “Participation in this unique event, which is mainly a celebration of motorsport in the style of the Olympic Games, is a great and prestigious event for me. I will be very happy to represent the Czech Republic against the grand names of all the different disciplines,” commented Štajf on his programme in this year’s season and added: “In this year, which is symbolically reflected in the name of our team, we and our sponsors have decided to go for a variety of our domestic and international activities that could be continuously adjusted to the ongoing government actions preventing the spreading of the corona virus. Let’s hope that the complicated situation will improve this year and that motorsport fans will be finally able to enjoy a proper racing season.”
Vojtěch Štajf with navigator Vladimír Zelinka will compete, for the first time, in Opel Kadett C GT/E 16V in the Historic Vltava Rallye taking place between 7 and 9 May 2021. Vojtěch’s premiere with a R5 category car at Autoklub Rallysprint this year will be with navigator František Rajnoha and in collaboration with Duck Racing team at the 26th Carlson Rallysprint Kopná, taking place on a new date of 21 – 22 May 2021. As for racing abroad, the first start with a classic car should be at the 54th Mecsek Rally in Hungary, taking place in June. Besides both the mentioned programmes, contract drivers of Racing21 will compete in selected races in Polo GTI R5 cars.
