The Racing21 competition team was founded in 2015 by mathematician Karel Janeček and rallye driver Vojtěch Štajf.
The management of the Racing 21 – Klokočka ŠKODA team announced a change of navigator today. Starting from the next event in the Český Krumlov Rally in May, Marcela Ehlová will be joining the rally driver Vojtěch Štajf in the ŠKODA Fabia R5, and will be replacing the current navigator Markéta Skácelová for the remaining events of the Championship of the Czech Republic.
For further continuation in the MERC championship, the team is in discussions with an as-yet unnamed co-driver with experience in World Championship Rally. This cooperation will be announced officially later.
The team decided to make this personnel change in order to ensure the quality of the active role of navigator, as well as the other duties arising from this position in terms of activities associated with team logistics during all competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Marcela Ehlová is rejoining Vojtěch Štajf in a rally car after more than five years. They competed for the first time together at the Rally Příbram 2009, where they came in 4th place overall. During the following season this woman from eastern Bohemia competed as a navigator beside Vojtěch Štajf during his première at the Rally Monte Carlo 2010, and then in all races of the domestic championship. Together they competed in 16 automobile competitions. They last competed together in 2012, also at the Rally Příbram. Their cooperation ended as a result of injuries that Marcela Ehlová received during an accident at the Jänner Rally 2013 with a different driver. Last year Marcela Ehlová competed by the side of Miroslav Jakeš, and has a total of 79 competitions under her belt.
"First and foremost I would like to thank Markéta Skácelová for almost a year of mutual cooperation, which definitley helped her improve a lot in the role of navigator thanks to the experience gained. We ended the 2017 season together as FIA ERT runners-up, and last week she made a significant contribution to the gaining of our team's first points in this year's MERC series. But in the team Racing 21 the position of co-driver requires good organisational abilities, because it is associated with other duties linked with administrative tasks and the logistical transfer of people and equipment between competitions, both at home and abroad. And unfortunately, since the beginning of this year we as a team have noticed the limits of the current navigator, who is also currently studying at university too. And because our programme in the 2018 season is more demanding than anyone could have imagined at the start of the year, due to us competing in two championships with two cars, we had to deal with the situation with this change of personnel. In spite of all this, we remain friends, and on behalf of the entire team I wish Markéta many more great years in automobile events. We have known Marcela Ehlová for many years, and we have past experience that we can build on. I believe that the experience with her, and the prepared cooperation with a co-driver of international standing for the MERC championship and the inclusion of further responsibilities in her activities in the team will be the right recipe for the even greater professionalism of the Racing 21 team," said the team co-owner and driver, Vojtěch Štajf, commenting on the personnel change in the team.
