The Racing21 competition team was founded in 2015 by mathematician Karel Janeček and rallye driver Vojtěch Štajf.
Team Racing 21 today presented its brand new special Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 in the colours for the 24th TipCars Prague Rallysprint and also confirmed its competition intentions for the 2019 season.
At today's press conference in the servicing area of the 24th TipCars Prague Rallysprint in Strahov, Prague, a brand new Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 in the new team colours of Racing 21 intended exclusively for the final competition of this season was presented to the professional community for the first time. On Saturday 1 December the team of Vojtěch Štajf and Karel Janeček will be competing in a total of six time trials of the competition in this unique racing special, borrowed from the BRR team of the Austrian Raimund Baumschlager.
Yesterday the team driver Vojtěch Štajf had a brief opportunity to test out the new car not far from Prague and with the team's technicians and specialists of the Austrian BRR team to set it up for this year's last participation in Prague. "I'm pleased that we have given all rally fans an early Christmas present in the form of participation in this unique car. During my recent visit to the headquarters of Volkswagen Motorsport in Hanover I learned a lot of important technical information about the new Polo GTI R5, but yesterday's hands-on test behind the wheel exceeded all my expectations. It's difficult to describe the feeling - it was an exceptional moment for our entire team, and I would mainly like to thank Raimund Baumschlager for it. It is logical that I feel a certain difference from my current R5 car, but I'm trying to get used to it quickly. But in spite of this I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, and I believe that we will mainly entertain the expected large number of fans in Točná and Strahov, because that's the main thing in this traditional last Prague event," said Vojtěch Štajf after the press conference. Team Racing 21 will also be entering its two current R5 cars in the event 24th TipCars Prague Rallysprint, with the drivers Petr Kačírek and Václav Kopáček behind the wheel in the colours of the team Duck Racing Autoklub.
The management of the team Racing 21 also presented its sporting intentions for the 2019 season and announced participation in the Championship of the Czech Republic 2019 series with its own Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 car. The team also confirmed Veronika Havelková as the navigator for all of next season. The detailed plans with potential increase in participations in other events will be published in the spring of 2019. "We have been working hard on the project of the Polo GTI R5's participation in events in the Czech Republic for many months. The number of these cars manufactured is highly limited, so getting one of them was not easy, even more so with a spring delivery date. But in the end we managed it in cooperation with a firm importing Volkswagens to the Czech Republic and with the management of the company Volkswagen Motorsport in Hannover. Our greatest desire is not to miss the first event of the Czech championships for 2019, but we'll see if in the end we manage this. Everyone probably kept an eye on this year's situation concerning the team navigator, which was not easy to resolve. But sometimes there simply are things that you can't influence, and I see it as such. At this moment I would really like to thank Marcel Ehlová for this year's joint successes and mainly to wish her good health. In the end we resolved the situation after this year's last competition, the MERC in Qatar. Veronika Havelková showed a lot of courage and handled her first performance in the Qatar desert really well. She played a great part in our victory during our first participation, and this convinced us to offer her the position of navigator for all of next season," said Vojtěch Štajf, explaining the change of personnel.
The traditional end of this year's season, the 24th TipCars Prague Rallysprint, starts on Saturday 1 December 2018 at 8 am in the Prague Strahov district.
